What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device when you visit. On your next visit, the site can read that file back, which lets it recognise your browser, keep you signed in, remember choices you have made, or measure how the site is being used. Cookies set by us are called first-party cookies; cookies set by other organisations whose tools we use are called third-party cookies.
We group the cookies we use into three categories: essential cookies, analytics cookies and performance monitoring cookies. Only the essential cookies are set without your consent; everything else waits until you accept it through our consent banner.
Essential cookies
These cookies are strictly necessary for the site and the platform to work. Without them you could not sign in to your compliance workspace or have your consent choice remembered, so they do not require consent and cannot be switched off through the banner.
| Cookie | Purpose | Domain | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| zest_session | Keeps you signed in to the Zest Assure application. Set as HttpOnly, so it cannot be read by scripts running in the page. | app.zestassure.com | 7 days |
| za_consent | Records the choice you made in the cookie consent banner, so we do not ask you again on every visit. | .zestassure.com | 180 days |
Analytics cookies
Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors find and move around the site and the platform, so that we can improve both. They are set only after you accept them via the consent banner. If you decline, none of the cookies in this section are placed on your device.
| Service | Cookies | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics | _ga, _ga_* | Collects usage statistics such as pages visited, visit duration and how visitors arrived at the site. |
| Microsoft Clarity | _clck, _clsk, MUID | Provides anonymised session replay and heatmaps, showing us where visitors click, scroll and encounter difficulty. |
Performance monitoring
When enabled, we use Pingdom Real User Monitoring (RUM) to measure how quickly pages load for real visitors. This helps us spot slow pages and regional performance problems. Pingdom RUM may set a cookie to distinguish page views within a single visit; the data it gathers is used solely to measure and improve site performance.
Managing your choice
You are in control of every non-essential cookie we use. You can manage your preferences in the following ways:
- The consent banner. On your first visit we display a banner asking whether you accept analytics and performance cookies. Whichever option you choose is stored in the za_consent cookie.
- Changing your mind. To make a fresh choice, delete the za_consent cookie from your browser. The banner will reappear on your next visit and your new choice will apply from that point on.
- Browser settings. Every mainstream browser lets you view, block or delete cookies, either for all sites or for specific ones. The browser's help pages explain how. Note that blocking the essential cookies listed above will prevent you from signing in to the platform.
- Google Analytics opt-out. Google offers a browser add-on that stops Google Analytics from collecting data about your visits across all websites, not just ours.
Third-party cookie policies
The analytics and monitoring services above are operated by other organisations, which act as providers of those tools. Their own policies describe how they process the data their cookies collect:
- Google Privacy Policy — covers Google Analytics.
- Microsoft Privacy Statement — covers Microsoft Clarity.
- SolarWinds Privacy Notice — covers Pingdom RUM.
Updates to this policy
We review this policy whenever we add, remove or change a cookie, and at least annually as part of the management system we maintain under our ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certifications. Any revision will be published on this page with an updated date. This policy is governed by the laws of England & Wales.
If you have any questions about our use of cookies, contact us at hello@zestassure.com or on 0161 464 9252.
